Each student participates in the drum-a-long
in an easy to learn "call and response" style and method.

Drum Cylinder is Big Bang Music Enrichment!

Drum Cylinder is a participatory drumming program for general audiences of all ages.

Drum Cylinder is an exciting adaptable enrichment program featuring award-winning drummer Chris and can host up to 100 drummers. Students participate by drumming in an easy to follow “call and response” style and by drumming along to popular songs. The program, up to sixty minutes in length is flexible and can be scheduled for several shows a day.

Drum Cylinder is excellent for workshops and or Artist in Residency (see below.) Students participate and learn about drum building and playing technique,time keeping, rhythm and the nature of rhythm, steadiness, etc. Students will learn and understand about the rhythm of life & how progress has changed the nature of rhythm and how this is reflected in popular music. Rhythm is a life force. A heart beat. Drums are the ancient instrument and are part of every culture.

boys and girls, staff and adults will enjoy equally.

Artist in Residency

For Artist in Residency DRUM CYLINDER is a three day event culminating in a school drumming performance. During the first two days students will learn about time, rhythm, beats & steadiness in participatory clapping and drum stick events in a classroom setting including "doubling and halfing" and other interesting beat and time lessons.

Also learning about the drum set, discovering how the size of the drum makes for high and low sounds not louder and softer. Students will be encouraged to discover which instrument on the drum set is the clock and why people love to join along with the beat by clapping, snapping, tapping and dancing.

As a motivational piece each class will decorate a drum cylinder that they get to keep and use in the drumming program.

On day three of the artist in residency the students will have a grand finale DRUM CYLINDER performance!
